Path of Hope is a new project seeking to love and serve the most vulnerable young women in Mbale, Uganda.
Our mission is to give opportunities and long-term freedom to young women who have been affected by teenage pregnancy and/or sexual abuse.
Path of Hope's strategy is very simple: to give teenage mothers and young women who have experienced sexual trauma, a chance to live successful lives. Our goal is to do this through creating community support groups, welcoming at-risk girls into our emergency home, aiding girls to continue their education and counseling them through difficult issues. With such tools, these young women can thrive and live victorious lives!

I am a Muslim girl of 15 and I was ready to sit P7 next year, but I got pregnant by my boyfriend and now my father has disowned me. He has chased me from his home and I have bounced around to different friends and relatives, but have no stability long term. What are my options?
My teacher got me pregnant. I am in P4 and he thought I’d be too young to get pregnant, but I wanted the good marks he was promising me. My father is angry and is in quarrels with the school. If family reunification proves to be impossible or unsafe, we would then place the girl in our 2 year program with skills training, discipleship and parenting classes in hopes that she would be able to be independent and raise her child after completing the program.

This is a case where legal action would have to take place in a tactful way that protects the young girl as much as possible. Local child protective services would be brought in to investigate the case while the girl stays safely in our emergency home. Medical care, personal counseling, family mediation and justice would be the key elemen

Medical care, personal counseling, family mediation and justice would be the key elements for such a situation with a vulnerable child. If family mediation is not successful and both the young mother and the unborn baby are not safe enough for family reunification, the young mother would join our 2 year program (with room for extension) or be placed in a trusted foster home overseen by Path of Hope. The young mother would continue studies while receiving medical care and counseling from our center.

It certainly leaves a girl feeling hopeless and out of options, but at Path of Hope we seek to help girls find hope no matter what dark situation they find themselves in! Since a girl in this situation would need intense counseling, medical care and discipleship, she would be protected and immediately enrolled in our 2 year program and justice would also be sought for the perpetrator. She may choose to go to school or she may choose to learn a skill, but we are willing to walk hand in hand with her as she discovers all the possibilities God has for her!
